  • Timmy “TurboTax” Geithner: “…if you don’t try to generate more revenues through tax reform, if you don’t ask the, you know, the most fortunate Americans to bear a slightly larger burden of the privilege of being an American, then you have to — the only way to achieve fiscal sustainability — is through unacceptably deep cuts in benefits for middle class seniors, or unacceptably deep cuts in national security.” Yes folks, it’s now a privilege to be an American. I can’t believe Geithner said this. In public. On TV. And he hinted that the Obama Administration may tap the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in an effort to lower gasoline prices and otherwise lessen their impact on Obama’s re-election campaign.

  • Obama has left several inspector general positions vacant for years, including the inspectors general for the State Department, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Homeland Security.

  • The Bipartisan Policy Center estimates that the U.S. will hit the debt ceiling (again) a few weeks after the election. I suspect the Treasury will have to practice creative bookkeeping to avoid hitting the debt ceiling before the election.

  • Newt Gingrich on a Karzai apology to the U.S. for the deaths of two American soldiers: “And, candidly, if Hamid Karzai, the president of Afghanistan, doesn’t feel like apologizing then we should say good bye and good luck, we don’t need to be here risking our lives and wasting our money on somebody who doesn’t care.” I’m starting to read more blog posts and Tweets to the effect that if the Afghans are such ingrates, we shouldn’t be fighting in Afghanistan. Even the right wingers are getting tired of this war.

  • David Dewhurst’s U.S. Senate campaign claims the event recently held the Podesta residence in Washington, D.C. was not a fundraiser and that all of the attendees had “Republican backgrounds,” whatever that means.

  • Senator Richard Lugar’s re-election campaign pimped a letter that blames conservatives and Tea Party supporters for threatening the GOP’s ability to re-take control of Senate. That’s a dumb thing to do when you’re being (successfully) challenged from the right during a primary, but no one ever accused Lugar of being particularly bright.

  • Texas banned abortion providers from participating in the state’s Women’s Health Program. The Obama administration has threatened to sue states that take such a step.

  • Two abortion providers in Great Britain who were caught on hidden camera offering sex selection abortions have been suspended.

  • Enrollment in ObamaCare’s high risk pools is well below projections, yet costs are way above projections. In other words, it’s a typical federal program. Only this one can cost you your life.

  • Hamas turned against its patron, Bashar al-Assad, and endorsed the Syrian revolt.

  • The Heartland Institute put up a web site that details how Peter Gleick impersonated a Heartland board member and obtained confidential documents.
