The details of a filibuster “reform” deal negotiated by Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell leaked out ahead of a formal announcement. Ed Morrissey writes that Harry Reid got less than he promised to the Left, and that may have something to do with the possibility that a future Republican-controlled Senate could turn around and use the new rules against Reid and the Democrats. John Fund writes that the changes will empower the Senate’s party leaders at the expense of individual Senators, which will have an especially negative effect on conservatives like Rand Paul, Mike Lee, and Ted Cruz who buck the party leadership. Daniel Horowitz describes how the filibuster changes will be presented to the Senate and argues that conservatives should vote against them.

It is the Senate’s job to hold the Secretary of State accountable, not the other way around. The head of the Department of Justice’s Criminal Division, Lanny Breuer, is resigning. Breuer was heavily involved in Operation Fast and Furious and provided false information to Congress about the program.
